LOST 5X08
Time for my thoughts on this week's episode. There are numerous sites that do recaps so I'm not going to necessarily do that, but I am going to share my thoughts on what happened.
*****SPOILER ALERT - IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED 5X08, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED!*****
Season 5, Episode 8 - LaFleur
~the big "holy crap" moment for this episode was the statue, we've seen the 4 toed foot on the show before, but this appears to be what the whole statue looks like, it looks Egyptian to me which would tie in with some other Egyptian references we've seen of late
~other than that, I found the episode to be pretty predictable
~one interesting thing was in the 1974 time period when two Dharma employees Jerry & Phil were in a Dharma station & the comment was made about what could happen, the polar bears figure a way out of their cages, so that directly relates to the polar bear Charlotte found in Tunisia in a prior episode (I believe it was in season 4, but possibly late season 3)
~Sawyer's taking of the name LaFleur which means a flower, could this have some hidden meaning for us?
~the other big question (other than the statue) from this episode was how Sawyer, Miles, Juliette, Jin, & Daniel come to be part of Dharma
~another interesting moment was when Juliette who was working in the motor pool comes to help Amy deliver her baby boy, this is the only time we've seen Juliette successfully deliver a baby on the island, so obviously something happens between 1977 & 2004 that causes pregnant women to die
~the truce between the Dharma Initiative & the hostiles - what happens to end it? what happened that it was put into place? I know they haven't gotten along, but was there some major event that occurred after Dharma came to the island that caused there to be a need for a truce.
~did anyone catch what station Horace told them to call to tell them we are level 1 - this occurred when the alarm went off and Richard comes into the camp
~I wasn't surprised to see Sawyer & Juliette together. I saw that one coming. I don't know that they will last though.
~Sawyer's best lines ever! - "I had a thing for a girl once. I had a shot at her. But I didn't take it. For a little while, I'd lay in bed every night wondering if it was a mistake. Wondering if I'd ever stop thinking about her. But now I can barely remember what she looks like. Her face is…she's just gone. And she ain't ever coming back. So, is 3 years long enough to get over someone? Absolutely!"
~The whole time Sawyer is talking though, I kept saying, Kate is fixing to be back. I knew she would be there any second.
~And then, Hurley, Jack, & Kate are back!
~An interesting thought - since we are now back in 1977, Dharma obviously knows about these people who they have taken in & the previews seem to suggest they will know about the O6 members who are back on the island. Now, when Ben joins the hostiles (the others) to kill off Dharma, do all these people from 2004 die too? Or have they left & are somewhere we don't know about. Either way, Jack, Kate, Hurley, & Sawyer are on the list that Michael convince to help him get Walt although Michael is lying to them about this. Are they on this list because of being there back in the late '70s? I think that all this is interrelated somehow.
~Sadly we have to wait 2 weeks for a new episode. From the previews, it looks like it will be very intense.
There's my thoughts for what it's worth. Tune in 2 weeks from now for my thoughts on 5X09 Namaste.

I agree the statue looks Egyptian. Reminded me of the Egyptian god Anubis...whose job it was to protect the dead and bring them to the afterlife. I wonder if that's why everyone on the island (or ones who left) keep seeing dead people?
ReplyDeleteThe cross was odd...DJ and I both thought we'd seen someone else wearing that cross. I googled it, and it turns out it's the Egyptian symbol of eternal life.
So...is this going to be a good sci-fi show, or some weird Egyptian religion show??? Hmmmmmmmmmmm
I was wondering...will they die when Ben & "your friend with the eyeliner" kill all the Dharma people, or does their timing reference the "War is coming and you have to stop it"????
And we have to wait 2 weeks?? What's happening next week that we have to wait? Hmmmm????
@Amy - I'm wondering about the whole kill the Dharma people thing & the war as well. Should be really interesting. I'm not sure why we have to wait an extra week, but at least it's only a week & not a month or more lol!!! I"m really interested to see where they are going with all this.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the truce this morning while drying my hair (No, I am NOT obsessed!)...and wondered if it was the same as the truce they made when they took Michael--don't go past this point and you'lll be fine.
ReplyDeleteBut Amy and her husband were picnicing outside the fence--beyond their boundary, which would explain why the others were going to kill them both.
??
@Amy - it could be, too me it looked like Amy & Paul were in a garden though having their picnic, that would be strange if that were beyond the boundary, hmmm......
